: My Food Storage Conversion Chart
: JustAPrepper August 21, 2009, 09:53:53 AM
This is a sheet I keep taped inside my kitchen cabinet and update as needed.  I keep the original in Excel and have been playing around with trying to get it to format correctly but I'm not real good with computers and am not having much luck.  It's a little hard to read but for those who are dehydrating, canning and grinding wheat there is some pretty good information here and might be able to help calculate your storage.  Remember, this is my personal list so YMMV but thought I'd share anyway.

Yep.   ;D  We were trying to find how much 1 pound of wheat was so we could calculate the yield of our bulk storage.  Just a tad over 2 cups came out to 1 pound of wheat and when ground yields 3 3/4 cups of flour and will give us 1 1/2 loaves of bread with the recipe DH is currently using.

I thought I had some notes posted here so I went digging around and found this Oldy Moldy...

Here's a couple of things to add to the chart...

1# Rice = 2.25 Cups = 6.75 Cooked Rice (I can't vouch for this personally...I've never cooked a full pound of rice but I've come across many sources that say the same thing so I'm going with it and am calculating my storage this way)

1# Dry Beans = 2 Cups Dry Beans = 5 Cups Cooked Beans (depending on the size of bean, this is pretty much spot on.  I cook lots of beans by the 1# bag in the Crock Pot and 5 Cups is pretty much right on the money)

And when I get done with this current inventory I'm headed over to Ex's house for a few Jiggers.  I'm gonna need it!!  :P

Here's another one...

A single serving of pasta is 2 ounces (before cooking weight) = 1 cup cooked

A pound of dry pasta = 8 servings = 8 cups cooked
