General Discussion / goals this year
« Last post by cook on February 18, 2024, 07:45:06 AM »
I'm still kicking. My mantra has been food/financial the last few year-they go hand in hand.
Never been a zombie prepper, just for day to day life and weather events.I have enough toys, gear, and gadgets(well, just one more ???)..but been concentrating on maintaining what I have.
Those small little car/home repairs,if ignored, add up to becoming overwhelming.
But damn, everything seems so much $$$$ theses days.A few examples.
My yard looks crappy compared to the neighbors,I shouldn't care, but my Mom and Aunt that lives here do..so you know what that means.A bag of weed-n-feed,5 rolls of sod, round up concentrate yesterday120$.
Replaced disposal a few weeks ago..of course took about 3 trips to H.D.,plus replace some pvc pipes and joint,6 beers..$200.

C.P.I. for groceries up 22% from pre-covid time.

But its not all doom and gloom, been a Chiefs fan for 22+ years, lot of 3-14 seasons, now I can gloat! O0

I'll save mine next time I am at the shotgun course.
There's a nice clay course at Triple N ranch on 192 half way between Melbourne and saint cloud.

Thanks! I appreciate that.

Triple N Ranch huh?
Will be checking that out as soon as this unloading thing winds down. The level of useless crap one accumulates over time is ridiculous.

Hey, if any of yall shoot 12 ga but dont reload, Im looking for once fired straight-walled hulls... Federal, Estate, Herters, Rio, Fiocchi.
I know most folks dont like reloading these but Ive started loading them and am going to start attempting a return to old style fiber wads and they work well with those.
Im in Cocoa/Port St John. Lets make a deal!

Wow, that's great!
We don't often see the impact we have on others, and I am sure you had an impact on her at some point.

My wife won't leave Flori-duh, even though she loves the mountains.

My parents lived in north Georgia for 25 years, and wow, it is so much easier to grow nice crops up there than it is down here.

Haven't seen my niece(my brothers daughter) in quite a while..still think of her as "punker" tattoo's,pink/green/black hair, always going to concerts.
Well, she must be close to 40 now,but has a few more tatoos, still goes to see Green Day,but down to 2 hair colors.
She got remarried a couple years ago,and was tired of the hellhole Miami area became.Never thought of her as a prepper type, but they bought a house with 8 acres in N.Ga.
They spent a year planting a garden, starting an orchard.Last year started chickens, then added 3 pigs. She posted some pics this week of the first pig packaged up from the butcher, she was so proud.
Her next project is beekeeping/honey production.Has 4 kids, oldest is 16,they all have chores and help out.
I helped get her start to become a "chef" like me,so she knows canning,preserving,baking,etc..
Her Mom was a seamstress,so she learned to make clothes from an early age.
I see people here making the move to Ga.,Tn.Kt..,not sure how much she considers herself a "prepper",but she certaily is living the self-reliant dream.

Point is,by looking at her,you would never guess this punker is light years ahead of 90% of the population. O0

Happy New Year!
Let's hope 24 works out well.
based on the news headlines, I'm surprised more preppers are not showing up.

This business in the Mideast looks to be growing. Iran looks to be getting more directly involved, so let's see how that plays out. and as usual the crazy little guy in north Korea is as always rattling his little nuclear sabers.  China wants to get Tiawan back, and Russia is taking a beating in Ukraine. Both of their economies are going downhill fast.

None of these even touch on domestic issues.

Lots to watch this year, and lots to think about as far as preparedness goes.
