Winn Dixie cat litter
« on: October 31, 2010, 06:22:07 PM »
I've just discovered that my local Winn Dixie is now marketing a crystal kitty litter that's almost pure silica gel crystals.  A 4 lb jug was $5.99.  I dug up a bunch of socks my kids outgrew and went to work.  I put a 1/4 cup of crystals in each sock and tied it off.  20 desiccant socks only used about a forth of the jug.  I use these in ammo cans, my tool box and my gun safe.  It's about a tenth the cost of commercial desiccants.  Great deal.

It's 5AM and I'm working hard to come up with a sarcastic reply but I'm coming up empty.  It's a bitch getting old.

For your gun safe I'd spend the extra bucks and go with this product:

Someone is paying attention (jokes aside).  I went back to get a second jug and they were sold out.  The manager said it was a new product they were just trying out but he's planning to add it to their regular stocks.

LOL! That's awesome!

I just take all the desiccant packs out of empty med bottles or packaging at the pharmacy I work at. I've gotten a ton that way, and we'd just throw them away otherwise.

Just curious, but are these desiccant socks... messy at all?

Well, not if you scoop all the "clumps" out of the litter box before filling your socks with it!   :D

I think that's a great eco-friendly way to re-use and recycle cat litter. Good on you Ex.
