We took a pretty good hit in Branford, Mayo areas. Many trees down- pulled out by the roots. Friend of ours tobacco crop totally decimated...

We had about 6 trees fall and MULTIPLE branches come down all around us... Large one hit our pole barn and it is now at a a 10 degree lean! Also tree crashed into the side of our large shed and bounced 3 times leaving gashes before landing and leaving a gaping hole.... overall just clean up stuff for us.  We have a GENERAC home system that kept us going for the 5 1/2 days we were out of power. We let neighbors come over and shower, do laundry, and just relax in the a/c for a while.
GOD is good!!

This is an area that is definitely one of my weak points.

I have a few of those walkie talkies and based on recommendations here bought a few of those Baofeng radios, but never learned how to use them. Swamp yankee set them up for me years ago.

Doing well in my area. We closed a little early last night. Corporate sent a team to tie the roof down and sent 600# of dry ice to  protect the food inventory. Driving home at 10PM in a gentle breeze and not a drop of rain. The gas stations were open and I did not observe lines at any of them.

The weather radio sent its first alert about 20 minutes ago. My weather station at the house is showing an average 6 MPH wind speed and barometer has dropped from 2980 to 2959 and only .56" of rain. A band is coming through now gusting at 15mph. Once the sun is up I'll take a look around but I might not even have any yard clean up to do. I work at 12 today and we're planning on opening at 4. First item on that agenda is airing out the building so we don't pass out. Some of us were getting lightheaded last night from the dry ice.

Thanks for the tip on how to brace the garage door. I'll need the supplies and see if a handyman can help with it to be ready for the next one. The premade steel kits were pretty pricey. Overall I'm happy with the preps and it's nice to be able to devote a little time to leveling up meal planning and comfort items and not just survival. Being ready is also a budget saver.  With each event I find I am spending less. There is very little I need. Next up is to use up all the gas I picked up for the generator.

Naples faired well..rain and now some wind..no worse than typical summer storm, just lasting longer.
For my garage door,I have a 8',4X4 post with a metal bracket on the bottom, left over from building my deck.Pre-drilled holes in the floor for tap-cons...top I just use wood screws into the header..zip-tie it to the cross bars so it has a little give.
Stuff I already had, might cost 30$ if you had to buy new. O0

So far so good. Barely a breeze outside, no rain, gas stations have gas. The updates now say to expect 30-40mph winds and 40-50 MPH gusts. I'm so happy!!!

Communications Tower / Amateur radio diagramming tools or Visio shapes?
« Last post by Frank on August 29, 2023, 05:23:32 PM »
Hey all. I am planning on setting up a family radio network that involves a number of moving parts.  I've kind of penciled it out, but was looking to create a cleaner, easier to read diagram.

Anyone know of a tool that helps with that?  Failing that, any place I can download Visio shapes for amateur radio (e.g., base stations, repeaters, mobiles, et al.)?

Thanks much.
