: Bolt Action Rifle Vest and Shotgun Vest
: Sentry April 25, 2014, 07:07:14 PM
I have been working on these for a little while now, and I am getting closer to being done with them.

The idea is a vest that will hold rounds for:
1.) Bolt action rifle
2.) Shotgun

Yes, I know... Not everyone's cup of tea when it comes to appearances. But its mine, bite me....  :P
Each pouch for the rifle vest holds 16 rounds, which will make for a total of 96 rounds or 308.
The shotgun pouches hold 12 each which will make for a total of 48 rounds of 00 buck. Still need two more pouches on that one, and one more on the other one.
Not to mention radio pouch and first aid pouches for the shotty vest.

Hey who cares how it looks. If it works then thats all that matters. Are those handout setups or personal for different needs? Ive been needing to setup a shotgun rig and if those pouches are the pull away and drop down kind ive been interested in them. Id like to know what ya think about em.

A big thumbs up on the IFAKs too btw.

The idea of them is very cool. I happened to get one before I went shooting at Greg's a couple months ago. It's gonna take some training to get some speed built up.

These are Specialty rigs (close in defense of home, and hunting) but could be hand out if needed. Or just mix it up if need be. I forgot about running slugs as well as buck shot. Really both could be hunting as well.

Thats the beautiful thing about shotguns, you can take care of a lot of different stuff. I ordered some stuff for my rig and IFAK the other day so im looking forward to switching things up.

hey sentry what do you think about the shot gun ammo strips/cards.. iv been considering getting some to mpount on the vest too...

I like the idea of the cards, it works it expedient... I like the ones I have better cause its not affixing something to the side of the weapon, its just feeding it.

Couple ways you can go.

The way you were originally talking about

What I am using
http://www.originalsoegear.com/collections/magazine-pouches/products/12ga-pull-out-pouch

This way
http://www.originalsoegear.com/collections/magazine-pouches/products/pull-out-16-round-12ga-tray

This way

Or This way

Forgot about these
http://www.originalsoegear.com/collections/chest-rigs/products/cop-rig

I'm not sure about the Velcro Card way... Seems to me things could be dropped or lost more easily using the cards. For me. My way is simply a training issue. Might take some time to get two vests up and running, but its a one time expense.

One of the questions I have about that pouch is how does the velcro and elastic hold up. Im surprised at how hardy velcro is And was wondering about the elastic. Beat it up dude.

As far as shells on the receiver a Tac Star saddle is hard to beat IMO. Cheap and they work.

The saddle on mine is the Mesa. A little different because its made of metal but I like it all the same.

Curious as to what you ended up deciding on this Bum? Or are you still thinking on it? I kind of started working on other things and got away from it... Now Im wanting to purchase another pouch, the last one I need in fact... And they are sold out of Coyote..... Im sure the Marine Corps or SF is buying them up....

Sentry i eventually went with the Velcro panel:

http://www.originalsoegear.com/collections/magazine-pouches/products/velcro-panell-for-12ga-cards

I got 1 horizontal and 1 vertical configuration.. both in molle because i have these missing links so i can strap molle pouches to my belt.. iv worn these on the tac range running n gunning and they hold up very well on a 2in belt.. plus with the molle they can go on my vest, battle belt or pack...

http://www.first-spear.com/product.php?productid=17527&cat=279&page=2

after getting these and using them im wishing i would have just got 2 horizontal configurations as i like them better more natural feeling when pulling rounds from the strip.. plus they can still go on my vest and adapt to my belt.. the vertical is strictly on the vest... my only concern is if the rings stretch out but iv not heard or read anything to indicate that they would, but just something to worry about.. I didn't spend to much only about 50$ + shipping i believe...  I already had the first spear adapters..
hope this helps..

Been gone a while and just now came across this topic about a shotgun chest rig. This is near perfect for a shotgun and am ordering one today. Thanks for the post!
