Two weeks ago we took a family trip from southeast Orlando to Weeki Watchee. We drove hwy 50, and as we passed through west Lake, Sumter and Hernando, I told my wife I loved the rural feel, and maybe we should look in that area to move to for an early retirement. I still like the panhandle, but shes just not going for it. Orlando is quickly swalling my once rural area.
I was surprised how sparse the development still is in sumter and east Hernando even right along hwy 50. Get off the hwy and I bet is even better.

So true! Wetlands are Florida's natural defensive structure, at least to most vehicles and city folk. A few high and dry acres surrounded by dense jungle wetlands sounds good to me.
Then all I have to worry about are the few natives willing to slog through them.

So who is busy on the 27th of September? Possibly that whole weekend... Camp, and celebrate "Thanks Preppers Day" you know I realized this morning, that it was fitting that I placed it in Preparedness Month... I believe it was accidental though.

The family and I spend one week a year in Santa Rosa County. Heading down in Oct. this year. The condo in Navarre is on the seventh floor overlooking the beach and Gulf. We see porpoise from the balcony. The long pier is just East of where we stay.

Ok, it appears that the Rain is not going to let up. So Thanks Prepper Day will be celebrated a little late this year.

Spring is coming! Who's ready for a cook out? I'm thinking a nice and comfortable Saturday at a Park somewhere. How far are you willing to Drive?
I don't so pot luck, you bring your own food, Ill bring mine... I don't feed people I don't know unless I have excess...
I promise it wont be my place this time.
We need to start thinking about where now, so we can set it up via reservation. Unless someone else wants to do the Reservation, since I seem to pick places that are close to me, because I know they are generally nice...
If you pick a place though, you need to do a recon, and post up picks of plenty of seating and useful cooking areas. Its also helpful if they allow portable cooking devices.
Lets get a bunch of us MOFO's together... We also need access for those on the forum who now have super powers due to immaculate accidents (i.e. spidie powers, bionic man syndrome and super woman powers for taking care of the bionic man)
Oh, they have to have geriatric access for those of us who are only getting older by the day... In other words, lets keep access short... The last one of these we did was at Hillsborough State River Park... I thought it was nice, cause the parking lot was right there. But we can only get what we get....

Hillsborough is nice. If you want more Central Fl, Lake Louissa State Park, just south of Rt50 on Rt27, might be a good choice. Picnic area on the Lake, good shade, but, no covered pavilions. Lake Kissimmee State Park is on Rt60 east of Lake Wales. With pavilions. Both have good parking near the picnic areas.

Hillsborough river state park is really not very far for me, so I would totally support that location. But like I said, I will drive to whatever as long as my boss gives me the day off. We are coming into our busy season.

Ok, so Ill see about the Hillsborough location again. I thought it was a nice set up last time. I promise I wont take up the tables like I did last time...
Maybe we can look at Green Swamp as well, Ill see if there are any day use areas there.
Waiting on others to chime in as well to see whose still alive out there.

Its only going to be one day of hanging out, talking and eating. Couple hours really, but you get to talk, listen, advise, instruct (sometimes) and learn.
