: Changes at the Kodiak House..
: KODIAK August 30, 2016, 05:15:02 PM
The better half and I have been discussing our lives and how we live.
We are seriously considering selling the house and living in the RV fulltime.
Already talked to a Real Estate agent. Numbers are workable.
Not enough room for all my preps.

May be downsizing my gear and food preps.
More to follow as decisions are made.
Could be a great time or the worst decision of my life.

Thats what my inlaws do, they love it.
I thought for a second there the wife was "downsizing" and you were lookin for a couch!

Not a bad plan Kodiak.
We downsized from the big house to a smaller mfg. home in a 55 and older community this year.
With me still working as much as I can and mama about 4 years from retiring, it was the only option for us to stay in this area...for now.
We are considering the RV route ourselves, even if its only for part of the year, and use this as our "home base".
Our thoughts were this will require us to downsize considerably for now and prepare us should we decide to go full time RV living.
Good luck with the transition and keep us posted.

Do you already have the RV? If not, just be dang sure it is what you can live in full time. I know some who quickly realized their RV wasn't the right choice or large enough and had to upgrade. Another example is a relative of mine bought a good travel trailer for using about 3-4 months in a year but quickly found out it wasn't designed well enough for constant use like that, the floor started to go soft from constant traffic, they upgraded too.

We have had a Class A for about 9 years. Spent a month as workcampers last May, to try a longer time.
We had a Travel trailer before that.
You never know what will work till you try.
It won't be many years before I will not be able to keep up the maintenance on the house. We have both worked hard our whole lives. Raised our kids, even helped with the grandkids.
A few years back we had to clear out my parents home after they passed. It's a real pain in the rear and the heart. I do not want to leave a lot of "stuff" for my kids to have to deal with.
We are going to have some fun, if we can.
Life is too short. If we wait much longer, we will not be able to go on this adventure. Even if we stay around here, it will still be an adventure.
Sorry for rambling, You ALL should check your life choices, You get no do over's......

It ain't the age, it's the mileage!

At 57 I've also been reevaluating my life. I want to make a change before 60. Would love to find a good woman to share it all and enjoy it with. Time will tell.

LoL! I already spent my lions share after I got divorced 5 years ago after 30 years! Truth is, I dont want to take anything a woman may have, I just dont want her to take what I have!

UPDATE.
Been cleaning out the house, painting, fixin' stuff. Have to be out Wednesday morning. Real estate agent is coming at 10am for pictures and sign contracts.
Got VERY lucky. Got a volunteer job for three months just 12 miles from the house. Alafia State Park.
Wife and I each put in 16 hrs per week.
Will try to keep up on the process. So far exciting. The wife is having last minute issues. Did we make the right decision or not. Time will tell.

Congrats Kodiak. I'm kinda jealous, I've been wanting to do the RV thing for a long time and I'm only 32  ^-^

I'm glad everything is working out for you guys! I might have to stop by Alafia once you get settled :)

OK, Update. Been at the park for over 2 weeks. Full price contract on the house after 3 days. Only waiting on the appraisal. That should be the last hurdle to jump. Wife having second thoughts. Oh, well...
Should have direct tv today and satellite internet.
Volunteering here is harder than I planned for. May have to rethink that.
The day after closing should be completely debt free.
Then plan to sell Class A rv, buy a new truck and a bairly used fifth wheel.

Sounds like things are moving right along for you.  Good deal.

Update.
Last Tuesday, our 37" fifth wheel was delivered. Friday, I picked up a 2017 Ram 3500, crew cab, long bed with the Cummins diesel engine, also had them include the brake controller, trailer wiring and a 25k fifth wheel hitch. The thing is like driving a tank. Will be at Alafia River state park until the last week of the year. Got a call from Lake Kissimmee State park today with an offer of a camp host job for January thru the end of April. After that, plans in the works to spend the summer going up the east coast to upstate NY, where we are both from.
This has been a hell of a transition, seems to be starting to smooth out.

Keep going one foot before the other.

WOW, Been almost three months already. What a change. Much more fresh air and time outside. Friday we will be making our first move. Have not actually pulled the new fifth wheel. or even hooked it up. The dealer delivered it to our current site and set it up.....
Positive note, the truck is getting 16 plus MPG. Just driving around here. Expect it will go down with a load, but, happy with it so far.
Will keep you posted on our progress. Planning a trip up the east cost for the summer. Savannah, Dover, Adirondack Mountains. Leaving in May. Plan to return in October. Already have a 3 month gig when we return.
Merry Christmas to ALL>
